First jump

Your first skydive: tandem or AFF?

For a first skydive, the tandem is the obvious way in: no training, your instructor handles everything from the aircraft door to landing, and you get to enjoy 100% of it. Fancy being in control? The AFF first jump has you skydiving on your own parachute, held by two instructors, after ground school.

  • Tandem: you enjoy the ride, your instructor flies. Perfect for a first jump, a gift or a challenge with friends.
  • AFF first jump: you open your own parachute, your first step towards an FFP licence.
  • Not sure yet? The quiz below points you in the right direction in 30 seconds.

Question 1 of 5

What do you want from your first jump?

The day

How your tandem skydive works, step by step

Allow half a day on site to savour every moment. Between take-off and landing: less than half an hour of pure thrills.

  1. Skydivers in their gear walking along the runway to the jump plane
    1

    Welcome, paperwork and weigh-in

Arrive at Beni Mellal Airport 30 minutes before your slot: welcome, weigh-in and paperwork, all quick and easy. No medical certificate? The club doctor will see you on site (200 MAD).

  2. Skydivers preparing and packing their gear on the hangar mats, rigs hanging on a rail
    2

    Briefing and kit

Your instructor teaches you the one position to hold in freefall (hips forward, head back, legs bent) and the landing position: simple and quick to learn. Then they kit you out: jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles.

  3. White and blue Pilatus PC-6 Porter jump plane beside the grass runway, hills in the background
    3

    Climb in the Pilatus PC-6

15 to 20 minutes of panoramic climb to about 4,000 m: the Tadla plain beneath your feet, the Middle Atlas on the horizon, often snow-capped in winter. Your instructor attaches you to their harness and checks every point.

  4. Tandem instructor and passenger in freefall between the clouds above farmland
    4

    Exit and freefall

The door opens and out you go together: here comes the big thrill! About 50 seconds at nearly 200 km/h. Hold your position and spread your arms when your instructor taps you on the shoulder.

  5. Tandem pair under its drogue parachute just after leaving the plane, at sunset
    5

    Opening and canopy ride

At around 1,500 m, your instructor opens the parachute: the rush of the wind gives way to silence. 5 to 7 minutes floating in the air facing the Atlas, often with the toggles in your hands for a few turns if the wind allows.

  6. Skydiver landing under canopy on the airfield grass, with the Atlas foothills behind
    6

    Landing and your footage

Legs up, you touch down gently on the landing area, with your friends and family watching. With the video option, you leave the same day with your edited film and HD photos, ready to share.

The minute-by-minute details: what happens on a tandem skydive.

Skydiver spread-eagled in freefall facing the snow-capped Atlas peaks under a clear winter sky

Winter season

Why skydive in Morocco in winter?

Because winter is our season! From 5 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, while most northern European dropzones are closed or quiet, PACMA jumps every day. You fall facing the Middle Atlas peaks, often snow-capped in winter, above the Tadla plain, a 2-hour drive from Casablanca.

  • A season against the grain: opening on the first weekend of December, last day on the first Sunday of April.
  • Unforgettable scenery: the snowy Atlas ridges on one side, the Tadla plain on the other.
  • A dropzone buzzing with life in winter: every season, skydivers and instructors from France jump in Beni Mellal, with our partner Vertical T'Air.
  • A complete trip: combine your jump with Marrakech, Casablanca or the Atlas villages.

Plan your trip: where to skydive in winter · Morocco in winter, weather and ideas for your stay.

The team

Who jumps with you?

You jump with PACMA, a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation (FFP), founded in 2000 and based at Beni Mellal Airport since 2003. Your tandem instructor is qualified, follows FFP rules and jumps on a rig fitted with a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device.

  • A chief instructor who decides on every lift according to the weather, with your safety as the only compass: Omar Benizi, club president and a skydiver since 1975.
  • A trusted French partner: Vertical T'Air, the skydiving centre in Arcachon, provides the aircraft and part of the season's instructors.
  • A main parachute, a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device on every tandem rig.

What to wear for a skydive?

Comfortable sportswear, trainers with the laces done up tight and a warm layer, and that's it: we provide the jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles. In winter, go for two thin layers: the temperature drops by about 6.5 °C every 1,000 m and it is often below freezing at exit altitude.

  • Comfortable sportswear, suited to the day's weather
  • Trainers with the laces done up tight (no sandals or boots)
  • Two thin layers rather than one thick jumper: it's cooler at 4,000 m, especially in the morning
  • Glasses: let us know, we provide over-glasses goggles

Tandem skydiving FAQs

All questions
How does tandem skydiving work?

Everything is designed for you to enjoy it: you arrive 30 minutes before your slot for the welcome, weigh-in and briefing, then climb in a Pilatus PC-6 to about 4,000 m. You jump harnessed to your instructor: about 50 seconds of freefall, then 5 to 7 minutes under canopy before a gentle landing.

How much does a tandem skydive cost?

At PACMA, a tandem skydive costs €250 for non-residents and 2,500 MAD for Morocco residents, all-inclusive: briefing, equipment and flight. Add video and HD photos (€100) to keep the memory; from 10 people, enjoy a group rate on quotation.

How high do I jump from?

You exit at about 4,000 m (nearly 13,000 ft) from a Pilatus PC-6 Porter. That altitude gives you about 50 seconds of freefall, with a breathtaking view over the Tadla plain and the Middle Atlas.

At what height does the parachute open?

Your instructor opens the parachute at around 1,500 m. For your peace of mind, every rig also carries a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device, which opens the reserve automatically if the parachute isn't open at the planned altitude.

How long is a skydive?

Allow half a day on site to savour the experience. The jump itself: 15 to 20 minutes of panoramic climb, about 50 seconds of freefall and 5 to 7 minutes under canopy.

How fast do you fall when skydiving?

About 200 km/h! And yet you don't feel like you're falling: it's more like being held up by a powerful wind, with a vast landscape beneath you. A feeling to experience at least once.

Who pulls the parachute in a tandem?

Your instructor. They manage stability, altitude, deployment and landing; all you have to do is hold the position from the briefing and enjoy it. Once the canopy is open, they may even hand you the toggles for a few turns if the wind allows.

What do I wear?

Comfortable sportswear, trainers with the laces done up tight and a warm layer, because it's cooler at 4,000 m. We take care of the rest: jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles are provided.

What is the weight limit in stone?

90 kg fully dressed (about 14 st 2 lb, or 198 lb), a limit set by the tandem equipment for your safety. There's a weigh-in at check-in: if you're close to the limit, message us before booking and we'll be happy to help.

What is the minimum age for a tandem skydive?

From 15, with parental consent for minors. And there's no upper age limit as long as your health allows: the medical certificate, or the on-site check, is what counts.

Do I need a medical certificate to skydive?

The main contraindications are pregnancy, certain heart conditions, epilepsy, recent surgery and some back or ear problems; also allow 48 hours between a dive and a jump. A fitness-to-skydive medical certificate is all you need, or an on-site check with the club doctor (200 MAD).

Can I skydive with glasses or contact lenses?

Yes, no problem at all. You keep your contact lenses in, and we provide over-glasses goggles that fit over your prescription glasses. Just mention it at the briefing.

Can I skydive with a disability?

Often yes, case by case: it depends in particular on the landing, where you need to be able to keep your legs raised. Get in touch before booking: we'll look at your situation carefully and find the right solution together.

Is tandem skydiving safe?

Your safety is at the heart of every jump: a qualified instructor, an FFP-approved club, a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device on every rig, and weather decisions made by the chief instructor. Like any air sport, skydiving carries some risk: that is exactly why every step is so closely supervised.

Can I skydive if I'm afraid of heights?

Good news: in the vast majority of cases, yes. Vertigo comes from comparing something close with distant ground; at 4,000 m the ground becomes a flat landscape and there is nothing left to compare. If you have a diagnosed phobia, let's talk before you book.

How do I mentally prepare for skydiving?

Knowing exactly what's going to happen is half the battle: picture the jump all the way to landing and practise breathing slowly. On the plane, chat with your instructor, look far out towards the Atlas, and let the excitement take over.

What should I eat before jumping?

Yes, but keep it light: breakfast or an easily digested meal, ideally one to two hours before the jump, plus water so you're on top form. No alcohol before jumping, as the French Parachuting Federation requires.

Is it easy to breathe while skydiving?

Yes, completely normally. The only reflex to avoid is holding your breath as you leave the plane. Breathe out hard, or shout for joy, and your breathing takes care of itself.

Do your ears pop when skydiving?

The pressure changes on the way up and down, just like on a plane: simply swallow or yawn to equalise your ears. With an ear infection, sinusitis or a heavy cold, talk to a doctor before jumping.

Can I bring my own camera?

No: tandem passengers jump without a camera or phone, so nothing can snag or come loose in freefall. For great memories, choose the video option (€100): a camera flyer just for you films you throughout freefall.

What happens if the weather is bad?

You lose nothing: if the wind or cloud doesn't allow a safe jump, the chief instructor postpones it free of charge to another date in the season, or converts it into a credit.

Can I change my date?

To change your date, contact us at least 48 hours before your slot and we'll offer you a new date, subject to availability. And if the weather is unsuitable, rebooking is free.

Can you back out of a skydive?

Yes, of course. Nobody jumps against their will: if you change your mind, you fly back down with the plane. Your instructor stays by your side for the whole climb to put you at ease.

Can spectators come?

With pleasure! They enjoy the show from the edge of the runway, watch you land and can have lunch under the caidal tent (70 MAD per person).
